Better stay curious, then there is magic

    thoughts just came up....

Better stay curious, then we can see magic
    otherwise, we see nothing

曲/编:英师傅 for double c music group

Welcome home. live well. be positive

    Flying fish -lunch

    Flying Fish seafood tapas

Sri Lankan king prawn curry with basmati rice,
brinjal pahie , lime and tomato pickle

    Yoshii degustation menu

Degustation menus are multi-course tasting menus designed by the Head Chef to showcase the cuisine and its abilities.

以下是摘自  Sydney Morning Herald Good living section的一篇文章,诠释悉尼Degustation menu 的little wonders,挺有意思。

    Little wonders

    June 15, 2004

The latest fashion to sweep Sydney is the degustation menu, previously the haute couture of our top-end restaurants but now spreading to even modest nosheries. Chefs all over town are sending artistically crafted collections of degustation and tasting menus down the runway.

It isn't just the indecisive who are choosing degustation over a la carte. It's the growing legions of adventurous and food-savvy diners who are putting themselves in the chef's hands. Chefs, meanwhile, are revelling in this chance to showcase the full range of their talents and creativity.

Some restaurants still market their degustation menus carefully. Sydney has a secret code, known to the restaurant industry, of simply placing an order for degustation, even if the restaurant does not advertise its availability.

"It gives you a sense of pride that they've got confidence in you," Hodgson says. "It all helps you to show off what the restaurant is all about."

With the surge in popularity of lots of little courses we are changing our definition of what this involves. The French word degustation, meaning "a tasting or sampling of food or drink", can't be used exclusively in multicultural Sydney. It's becoming common to call it a tasting menu. Chinese banquet meals tap a similar vein, as do Japanese kaiseki menus.

"If I go out and see a degustation menu I like to order it. You need to be flexible but there's always that element of surprise."

Surrender to the chef and chances are you're tucking into the best available produce on the day and eating their food in the proper sequence.

It might seem like a lot of food but a good degustation menu should leave you feeling content rather than overfed.

Bamboo shoot Tempura served with shiso salt

Pan fried duck breast Jibuni-style port wine flavour

Paper wrapped Hiramasa king fish baked with sansho leaves and red miso

Rose gum smoked Wagyu beef with horseraddish and turnip puree in Tamari reduction

    Women... think too much?

This ad is great, how insightful
women are tend to think much much more than men indeed!
But, thank God I am a giri as well~if I gotta choose again, I don't really wanna be a man anyway.

…What goes through your mind when someone says "Let's go for a drink"?

一直以来,每天早上都是坐express bus to martin place, walk to wynyard, 然后再转train to north sydney.
后来开了小差,忘记下车了,于是没办法,只能被拉去central, then take train to north sydney.

Japanese name is <Okuribito>, English name is <Departure>,
It's the closing film shown on Japanese film festival which held in sydney  every end of the year. The tickets has been sold out quickly, and I was so lucky that I got the last one, first row, left corner seat~

It is a beautiful, tender and thoughtful film.

The attitude towards death or corpse is always associated with a frown. People fear about it, and it’s somewhat spooky in many cases.

Daigo used to be a cellist in a Tokyo orchestra, which was suddenly disbanded for some reason, with no prospects for another job, he and his young wife Mika move to his hometown in rural Yamagata. There he responds to an ad listed under “departures”, which he thinks is a travel agency but turns out to be misspelled. It was supposed to say the departed, the job pertains to dressing, washing, and applying makeup on the deceased before the funeral(known as Nokanshi) . By being offered a great deal of money as salary, Daigo takes the job but is too ashamed to tell anyone.

it is a job that not many people even know its existence, it’s a job that most people look down upon because you earn money when someone dies. At first Daigo, does not like his job but as time passed by, he comes to a new understanding of it. And little by little we too as audience get pulled in. it is a great and meticulous ritual to witness. Every touch of the deceased is done with care and always with elegant movements while exposing a minimum of skin. It wordlessly shows that, the deceased is no mere lifeless body, but a person worthy of respect and love.

It is also a movie about forgiveness and understanding:  Daigo’s wife, at first can't get over the social shame of her husband's profession. She gives him a choice: dead people or her. When she finally sees what he does, she begins to appreciate the value of the 'unclean' and strange job.  Also, the relationship between Daigo and his boss, Daigo and his father, and the story of another family …….it all went from misunderstanding/ neglect to understanding~

Throughout the film, there are many scenes showing Daigo plays Cello, alone at home, alone at beach, in mountain……the music was just beautiful. And I suppose it’s the very instrument which can convey the sense of loneliness, especially when nobody understands you. It calms our heart and make us think.

This film is definitely gonna win the best foreign film award in Oscar ~~

    Time has the last word

Another great movie I have seen recently
The curious case of benjamin button.

Directed by David Fincher, the film was adapted from a 1920s short fantasy written by F scott Fitzgerald.. He inturn was inspired by a quote from Mark Twain :
"Life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age of 80 and gradually approach 18."

With a good premise to start , this epic romantic drama is about a man, benjamin, who is born looking like a crotchety old man in his 80s and ages in reverse. As he states throughout the film, he was born under unusual circumstances. He was abandoned by his father as an infant and was adopted by a kind black woman from retirement house.
He met Daisy, who then becomes a ballet dancer. for the first time when they are both children, their lives intersect at various points as they head in opposite directions. They both have walked through many stages of life and  met different kinds of people. One person 's gone and someone else has come in, Life sometimes really is a car park.

The main theme in the film is not death, forgiveness or love, but rather life. Every bit of love, happiness, depression, confusion, hate, companionship ,every experience we have is our life. Many people complain this film is too long and relatively boring.  Well, it's different genre, you can't compare it to those spider man, bat man, which win the box office, but pretty much make no sense. The content of this film enable us to think about it over and over.

The part that I like the most is a fast forward and rewind scene, it shows some random scenario such as a lady goes to the shop, drops her clothes...and then get it on the way back.......it stated very very detail, I was confused at first thinking, this is just pointless, however,  rewind editing technique got in showing, "IF the lady didnt......or the guy left home 5 mintue earlier, or she didn't answer the phone....the taxi won't hit Daisy." This part is just so brilliant and beyond words, yes, I always think about this, everything is connected and one always lead to another,  if one single moment of life changes, the whole ending will probably turn out to be completely different. Unfortunately, everything seems to be arranged and there is no take 2, or rewind button in real life.

The film reminds me of "Forrest Gump" and "Notebook" when I was watching it.  Fair enough, I later found out that the screenwriter Eric Roth, is also the writer of "Forrest Gump".No wonder the two are kind of similar, narrated by the leading role, and it's documentary style.  However, this film carries much more, another notable achievement in the film is the visual effects, not only the cinematography , but also the high level of digital work and the make up, all of which are Oscar worthy. I guess this film will sweep at least 4 Oscar awards:  Best actor , best make up, best director, best motion picture, best cinematography .....speaking of acting, the storyline requires a certain level of acting skills, it's definitely not easy, both Brad and Cate have to act different stages of age, from 20--70.

My rating to this film? Not to be missed~~but make sure you calm yourself down when watching it.
If you happen to watch it with your sweetie, I hope you can get the sense that life is short and we need to make the most of it.

    Happy 牛year!
